Dental Implants

Looking to replace missing teeth? Implant-supported teeth don’t just restore your smile. They also protect your future oral health.

By encouraging bone growth, dental implants help stop your jawbone from deteriorating, which can lead to more dental problems and expenses.

Learn how Dr. Jon Marc Van Slate in Houston, TX, a leader in restorative dentistry, puts quality dental implants within reach.

Why Dental Implants Are Superior ...

Long-Lasting

Dental implants are made of biocompatible titanium and can last 40 years, or even a lifetime, with proper maintenance. However, your crown, bridge, or denture will need to be replaced about once a decade.

Prevent Jawbone Atrophy

Without tooth roots to stimulate the jawbone, the bone tissue begins to recede. This can lead to further tooth loss. Dental implants, which act as artificial tooth roots, are the only treatment that can prevent jawbone atrophy.

Improve Function & Confidence

Dental implants provide greater stability to restorations. Dentures attached to an implant never slip out of place so you can feel more confident eating, speaking, and smiling in social situations.

Is It Time to Invest in Your Health & Happiness? Request a Consultation

Missing teeth impact your happiness and your health, but unfortunately, many people assume dental implants won't fit into their budget. Before deciding on any tooth restoration options, we suggest you request a consultation with Dr. Van Slate, who has more than 30 years of dental experience. He will take both your goals and your budgetary needs into consideration and work with you to find an affordable solution for missing teeth.

While dental implants appear more costly at first, alternative methods can end up costing more in the long run. For example, dental bridges can damage adjacent teeth, leading to more dental work. Traditional dentures accelerate the deterioration of your jawbone.

With your health and happiness at stake, it's important to get the whole story. Request a consultation with Dr. Van Slate. He is well versed in the pros and cons of each method as well as steps you can take to help implants fit into your budget.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small, titanium posts that are surgically inserted into your jaw. When combined with a crown (an artificial tooth), the implant and restoration mimic the lost tooth, from root to crown. Implants can be used to hold a variety of restorations, including a single tooth, dental bridge, or full arch of teeth. Implant-supported restorations are considered the closest thing to natural teeth.

Consultation

Dr. Van Slate will conduct a thorough exam to determine appropriate options to replace your missing teeth. If implants are a good solution, the dentist will recommend an oral surgeon to surgically place your dental implants.

Implant Placements

The placement of implants is usually an outpatient procedure performed at the oral surgeon’s office with general anesthesia. How long or complex the procedure is will depend on the number of implant posts being placed.

Healing Period

The implant will be left undisturbed for two to six months to allow the bone to naturally form around the implant, securing it in place.

Abutment Placement

Once the implant is secure, a connector piece called an abutment is attached that will allow your restoration to be secured to the implant. It's a simple procedure followed by a couple of weeks of healing to allow the gums to naturally grow around the abutment.

Impressions

Once the treatment area is healed, Dr. Van Slate will design your restoration by taking precise impressions of your mouth to create your crown, bridge, or denture. Our Houston practice only works with top U.S. dental labs to ensure our restorations are of the highest quality. Dr. Van Slate insists on a completely natural appearance and comfortable fit.

Restoration Placement

Dr. Van Slate will test your restoration in your mouth to ensure it is comfortable and that your bite meets his exacting standards. Once both you and the dentist are satisfied, he will secure the restoration in place and you can walk out with a smile that is not only beautiful but strong, healthy, and full functional.
