Sherri PRACTICE MANAGER OF OPERATIONS
Sherri has been Dr. Van Slate’s Practice Manager of Operations since he started his practice in 1992. Because of her vast experience working for over 35 years in the dentistry, she has become well respected in the industry. Her dental expertise has enabled her to train many office managers in dental office procedures, communication skills and insurance protocols. For many years, Sherri has trained at the Las Vegas Institute for Dental Studies as well as many other leading practice management companies. Her talents are not only invaluable to our practice, they are also appreciated and welcomed by our patients.
Sherri has many artistic talents as well. She enjoys her time making many innovative arts and crafts, including woodwork carvings. For over 12 years she was the lead vocalist in a local country and western band named Sherre Linn & Still Water Crossing. She also owned a thriving Karaoke business which was very popular in the Spring area. Sherri is married and has twin boys who are both currently serving in the military. Sherri often refers to them as my “heroes”!
DENISE BUSINESS ASSISTANT
Denise brings a wealth of knowledge and practice management skills to our team. She grew up in Houston and graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1985 with a BA on Office Administration. She learned that she loved dentistry while working as a dental assistant in high school. After college, she started her career working in the IT field. She then transitioned into the medical field working as an office manager for a busy family practice, an Urgent Care facility and then a Plastic Surgeon. Denise is a highly motivated person who has proven to be the perfect compliment to our practice.
Denise is married and has three beautiful and talented children who she enjoys spending her time with. Denise stays very involved with her church and always enjoys remodeling projects around the house. Denise went to high school with Dr. Van Slate!
LAURA REGISTERED DENTAL ASSISTANT
Being a registered dental assistant for over 25 years, Laura brings unmatched dental knowledge and expertise to our practice. She has always enjoyed the challenge of keeping current with her dental education and the personal satisfaction she gets from working with patients. She is always complimented for her calm and caring demeanor.
Laura grew up in Southwest Texas and moved to Houston with her family when she was in the second grade. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hiking and exercising.
LETA REGISTERED/CERTIFIED DENTAL ASSISTANT
Leta is one of the most highly trained dental assistants in the business. She has over 30 years of dental assisting experience and has been Dr. Van Slate’s assistant for almost 20 years. Leta grew up in Indiana and received her training from Indiana University. She has the rare distinction of being both a Registered and Certified Dental Assistant. Since 2006, Leta has received yearly training from the Las Vegas Dental Institute for Advanced Dental Studies.
Although she grew up in Indiana and still roots for Chicago sports teams, she is also a huge Houston sports fan. Leta is married and has 2 boys. Her pride and joy are her two beagles. Her love for animals led her to become an advocate in helping sheltered animals find “forever homes”. Through Marietta College, she became a Certified Mental Wellness Coach so she can share her passion for holistic health and wellness.
KRISTIN REGISTERED DENTAL HYGIENIST AAS, RDH
Kristin is recognized as one of the best hygienists in her field. She continues to serve as a mentor/teacher in hygiene techniques and principles to many hygienists. Kristin is a Certified Laser Specialist and has received advanced training in Periodontal Therapy and MyoFunctional Therapy. She is also one of a select few hygienists who has completed several programs at the elite Las Vegas Dental Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. Kristin began her career in dentistry as a Registered Dental Assistant before receiving her degree in Dental Hygiene in 2011. Our patients regularly compliment Kristin for her fun and outgoing personality.
Kristin is married and has two beautiful daughters. She enjoys singing as a soloist in her church choir and she is a fabulous cook!
JOSHUA REGISTERED DENTAL HYGIENIST AAS, RDH
Our practice is fortunate to have a dental hygienist as capable and advanced as Josh. He is a Certified Laser Specialist and has received advanced training in Periodontal Therapy. His knowledge of how a person’s oral health relates to whole body health is unsurpassed. Josh is originally from San Diego and received a BA in History from Sonoma State University in 2006. In 2021, he graduated from Wharton with an Applied Sciences Degree in Hygiene.
Josh is married but has no kids, yet! Josh grew up playing soccer in the San Diego area. In college, he worked as a wine specialist in a vineyard. Since moving to Houston, he has become a huge Astros fan. He has a passion for board games and going to comic conventions.
